Denman Prospect North

Canberra ACT

Background

Denman Prospect North, Stages 1 to 9 is a land release by the ACT Government and developed by Capital Estate. As part of the release, earthworks comprising cuts and fill up to about 6 m are required to regrade the site to facilitate construction of residential lots, roads and associated infrastructure including inground services.

Scope

D&N were engaged by Woden Contractors to perform the role of Geotechnical Testing Authority for the project. Our scope typically comprised advising the project team as to the suitability of foundations and material quality for filling. All supervision was undertaken as full time Level 1 as defined in AS3798-2007, in accordance with the Municipal Infrastructure Technical Specification, July 2019. Further geotechnical investigations were undertaken to assist with civil and structural design of in ground services and retention structures.

Challenges

The site variably spans topographic highs, natural slopes, creek lines and drainage channels associated with a former pine forest. As such, site soils and groundwater were required to be managed closely throughout the earthworks. D&N were able to work y with the contractor, to make best for the project decisions regarding earthworks methodology and material re use throughout the project.
