Adelaide Street, Slope Safety Improvement

Brisbane, QLD

Background

As part of Brisbane City Council’s rolling program of routine inspections of embankments and retaining walls across the city, a slope on Adelaide Street, Brisbane City was identified as potentially hazardous to road users.

Scope

D&N were engaged to carry out a desktop review of existing geotechnical, information and undertake a site walkover by an accredited RMS slope risk assessor to observe features of geotechnical significance. Following which, we analysed and designed the preferred method of hazard mitigation, a Rock Fall Fence.

Challenges

The site posed multiple challenges, including being a busy road corridor within Brisbane City, with the slope displaying multiple signs of previous slope stabilisation works including shotcrete and stone masonry works.

An appropriate and cost-effective rock fall fence and foundation was installed during night works, a D&N geotechnical engineer was onsite to manage all geotechnical constraints throughout the works.
